Railways are going to hire 1.17 personnel into posts such as that of station masters, technical and staff supervisors, train drivers, vital safety staff, etc. Every year the railways face an attrition of 40000 employees who either retire, superannuate or die and who need to be replaced. This year’s hiring is a drastic leap from 95000 employees employed over past 2 years. The sector has faced huge issues in the past few years, with candidates attacked by Maharashtra Nariman Sena in 2008, and question papers of railway exams leaked more than once in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
