SP against UPA’s plan for SC/ST quota in government job promotions - August 22, 2012

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in an all party meeting seeked direction to find a way to introduce a quota for SC/ST in government promotions, a move that differs from Supreme Court’s order to disallow UP’s governemt to provide quota in job promotions. All parties except the Samajwadi Party agreed to secure a legally coherent system of quota for reservations in job promotions in order to protect weaker sections under public employment. The SP however reasoned that such a move would hurt OBCs and would not support such a bill.
